Leanne, Ireland

Hi everyone ?

My name is Leanne and I’m from Cork in Ireland. I’m 21 years old and I’m in 3rd year of college studying International development and food policy. As part of our course, we are required to go on a 5 month internship and so that is why I am here in Cambodia. When looking into the different NGOs I could apply for, SCAO is the one that stood out to me, because I really like the vision of the organisation and I know a few people who have volunteered here before and they really enjoyed it.

I can’t believe this is my last week with SCAO! I have been here for over 4 months now working in SCAO 2. Before coming here I had no experience in teaching but from the very first day the children made it so easy for me. They are the happiest, most friendly children I have ever met and made me laugh every single day. I had different classes during my time here such as ABC beginner and ABC advanced. I was also doing community research for SCAO, for example I did a water filter project in Som Roung village to research how the water filters, provided by SCAO, have impacted the life’s of the villagers.

My time with SCAO has been such a great experience. Getting to know other volunteers from different parts of the world, feeling like I am doing something good with my time, having fun with the children and the fact Cambodians are so welcoming are just some of the things I will miss.
