S.C.A.O.

  • About

The Save poor Children in Asia Organization, S.C.A.O., is a Cambodian non-profit, non-government organization.
S.C.A.O. received its first license from the United Nations in 1993 and its second registered license from the Cambodian Authorities on October 27, 2004. With the generous contributions and donations from various volunteers from around the world, S.C.A.O. was built and officially opened on December 5, 2007. Since its creation, S.C.A.O. has evolved into a wonderful environment where children and volunteers can feel at home, learn, play and prosper.

It consists of two main ideas:

    1. Education
    2. Community Services

Our director, Mr. Sath Sameth is Cambodian and we have several Cambodian staff members. Nevertheless we are a volunteer-based organization and are always looking for long-term volunteers to support our English classes and Computer lessons. Volunteer now!

  • Our Mission

Cambodian children are among the world’s most deprived and abused. They suffer the misfortune of being born in a country with one of the highest rates of child prostitution, domestic violence and child labor in the world today.

Public schools, although ostensibly free, are outside the means of many of Cambodia’s poor. Whether due to family size, disability or disease, many parents need their children to earn an income or supervise their siblings. Education remains beyond their reach.

Cambodia now has 5.1 million children under the age of 15 – a full 43% of the population that will eventually enter the economic environment, unskilled and undereducated. The rate of child prostitution and child trafficking is expected to significantly increase without serious, long-term intervention. For these reasons and more, the work of Save poor Children in Asia Organization (S.C.A.O.) is essential. Educating and empowering more children in Cambodia is critical to breaking the cycle of poverty that has hindered the opportunity for children to move forward. This is the mission of S.C.A.O.

  • Our Vision

    mission

All children at the Centre must have the possibility to receive an adequate education and to learn a vocational skill of choice. The integration into society and the labour market is the last step to independence and responsible citizenship supported by S.C.A.O. Additional goals are to:

    • Build branches of S.C.A.O. throughout the country
    • Develop vocational training schools for disadvantaged children living both at the Center and in surrounding areas
    • Reach out to the community through educational awareness campaigns
    • Building bridges among the advantaged and disadvantaged communities in Cambodia, Asia and the world

  • Meet Mr. Sameth

samethMr. Sath Sameth and his wife are ambitious in their vision for Save poor Children in Asia Organization (S.C.A.O.) and the disadvantaged children of Cambodia. He grew up in Svay Kon Keo Commune (Takeo Province, Cambodia). When Mr. Sameth was young, the Khmer Rouge killed his father, leaving him, his three sisters and four brothers to live in poverty. He left his home at the age of twelve to go to Phnom Penh where he lived in a Buddhist monastery for nine years. He studied Forestry and Journalism at Chom Kadon University. Mr. Sameth also worked for the government Forestry Department where he traveled to 24 Provinces learning and advocating sustainable forestry methods.

Mr. and Mrs. Sameth´s passion to help their country has driven them to open up a centre where poor children are cared for, loved and educated. S.C.A.O. gives children the opportunity to live with the Sameth Family, escape from poverty and isolation and be in an environment where education is accessible. These children are taught valuable skills that will help them be independent and self-sustainable, as well as giving them the opportunity of having a brighter future.
