Hello Srey Houy, please tell us about how you came to SCAO.
Hey, I came to SCAO around five years ago. Before I lived in the north of Cambodia in the Preah Vihear Province. My house was near the Thai border. Because of the fighting between Cambodia and Thailand at that time, the schools were usually closed and we had to move around a lot. Also the next public school was far away and that is why I could not go to school. Then I came to live at SCAO. When I came to SCAO it was very different for me first, because my house used to be very in the countryside and I could not speak English.
How did you learn your English?
At the beginning I started to study in Srey Lats class, I think with the ABC book. I learned a lot my talking and listening to the volunteers. Now my English has improved a lot and now I can study in the New Headway Pre-Intermediate class. This is one of the best classes taught at SCAO and I am very happy to study there.
What do you like about SCAO and what do you like doing in your free time?
What I really like about SCAO is the people and speaking English. Living together with so many children from around Cambodia is really nice for me, because I have the chance to play with so many children. In my free time I love riding on my bicycle through our village, especially with Leemai. On Sundays I love driving to the nearby rice fields together with all the children and the volunteers and playing racing games or other games there.
Do you have any plans on what you want to do when you are finished with High School?
Right now, I think about studying medicine. I would like to be a doctor, because I want to go back to my home province and be able to open my own clinic there. The people there don’t have many doctors and I would really like to help them.
Thank you for your time!
